This article shows you how to obtain a screenshot of your computer or take a picture with your phone and remove patient identifiers. Refer to this article for instructions on how to submit a curbside consult and receive answers from our specialists panel. For an overview of Curbside Consult, refer to this support article. Curbside Consult is only available to the PRO and PRO+HBO plans.
Using your computer
Mac users:
- If you don’t have an app that can take screenshots and edit them, download and install Skitch for free. No need to have an “Evernote” account to use this app.
- Open Skitch and click on “screen snap”
- Select which part of the screen you’d like a picture of and click on “capture”
- Use the draw feature on the left to cover patient identifiers
- Save the redacted image by clicking on File> Export. Select a name and folder in your computer to save it. Select export format as PNG, then click “Save”
- Open Curbside Consult and upload your image to your question
Windows users:
- Use the built-in app “Snipping tool”
- Open Snipping tool
- Capture a snip : In Snipping Tool, select Mode (in older versions, select the arrow next to the New button), choose the kind of snip you want, and then select the area of your screen that you want to capture.
- Annotate a snip: After you capture a snip, cover patient identifiers by selecting the Pen or Highlighter buttons.
- Save a snip
- After you capture a snip, select the Save Snip button.
- In the Save As box, type a file name, location, and type (jpeg, png, tiff) and then select Save.
Using your mobile device:
iPhone or iPad users (iOS 11):
- Open your camera app and take a picture
- Go to Photos, click on the picture, then click on “Edit”
- In the ribbon that appears on the bottom of the picture, click on the icon with 3 dots
- Click on Markup
- Select a highlighter or pen, draw over patient identifier and cover it. Click on “done”, then “done”
Android users
- Download markup editors such as Snap Markup
