The WoundReference TeleVisit Tool is designed with ease of access in mind. It should be as easy as possible to invite anyone, and people that you invite don't need to download any applications to join your video call!
It's possible for you and your patient to join a televisit from a computer (Mac, Windows, Linux), tablet or mobile device (iOS, Android), as long as the device has:
- Camera, microphone and speakers
- High speed internet connection via good WIFI or good cell network reception. Test your internet connection here. At least 2MBPS download and upload speeds are recommended.
- A supported internet browser (a browser is needed in order to use the internet). See supported browsers for each device type below.
Desktop/ laptop computers
Supported computer software (operating systems) and internet browsers are:
- For devices with MacOS, use the latest version of Chrome. You can use Safari, Firefox, or Edge, but Chrome is best. Please check if your browser has been upgraded to the latest version by clicking here. After upgrading, turn your device off then turn it on again.
- For devices with Windows and Linux, use the latest version of Chrome. You can use Firefox or Edge, but Chrome is best. Please check if your browser has been upgraded to the latest version by clicking here. After upgrading, turn your device off then turn it on again.
iPhone/iPad
- For iPhone/iPad, we recommend using iOS 13.6 or later for optimal televisits. The TeleVisit Tool 2.0. works with iOS 12.1 or later, but iOS 13.6 allows for significant audio and video improvements and it is worth the update. Please check if your iOS has been upgraded to the latest version. See how to update your iOS here. After upgrading, turn your device off then turn it on again.
- Patients and invited participants that visit your Waiting Room using an iPhone will see a banner that displays their iOS, and will recommend an iOS upgrade if their iOS is < 13.6.
NOTE: The TeleVisit Tool 2.0. provides better audio and video compared to the TeleVisit Tool 1.0, but it does not support older versions of iOS Safari (versions 11 and 12). If the patient has Safari 11 or 12 and cannot upgrade to the newest version for some reason, you can still conduct a televisit using the older version of the TeleVisit Tool (1.0), which is compatible with Safari 11 and later.
Android phones/tablets
- For Android, use Chrome. Try vertical and horizontal orientations for best display. Please check if your browser has been upgraded to the latest version by clicking here. After upgrading, turn your device off then turn it on again.
How can I tell if my patient (or invited participant) is using a supported device or browser?
The use of an unsupported device/ browser may be the reason why you or the invited participant cannot initiate a vide call or cannot see or hear each other. You can check what kind of device/ browser your invited participant is using by hovering your mouse over their name on the 'Encounter Dashboard'.
- If the device or browser is unsupported, you can send them a link to the support article "For Patients: What kind of device and internet do I need in order to have a televisit with my clinician?" so that they can check their device/browser compatibility.
- Patients and invited participants that visit your Waiting Room with an iPhone will see a banner that displays their iOS, and will recommend an iOS upgrade if their iOS is < 13.6.
What is the underlying technology used by the TeleVisit Tool?
The WoundReference TeleVisit Tool is built using WebRTC, a new web standard for real-time communication in browsers.
