This article is designed to help new users get to know our TeleVisit Tool and get their system ready for a video call! This tool is a video conferencing software for clinicians to remotely see their own patients or discuss cases with colleagues. For resources on how to get started with Telemedicine, see our "Telemedicine" page. For patients, see article "WoundReference Televisit Tool Overview (for Patients and Invited Participants)".
What is WoundReference TeleVisit Tool?
The TeleVisit Tool is a software that allows you to securely evaluate remote patients, discuss cases with colleagues, and provide verbal or written recommendations after a virtual service. The TeleVisit Tool differs from other video conferencing applications because it doesn't require any downloads and works across different devices like desktops, laptops, mobile, etc. Another way that we're different is that you can create an individual link for each encounter or you can have your own virtual meeting rooms that you can go to at any time.
The TeleVisit Tool is currently available in 2 versions: TeleVisit Tool 1.0 and 2.0.
Why use WoundReference TeleVisit Tool?
- WoundReference is the first telemedicine solution designed for wound clinicians, by wound clinicians. See specialized features here.
- Discuss cases in real-time with your colleagues or other specialists of your own network, at the point-of-care. They can see the same patient you are seeing through a videoconference and get a better picture of the case. This feature can be a huge time saver if you are a wound care specialist covering multiple institutions or if you are in need of a specialist's opinion.
- Quick and accurate documentation: Video-visit encounters can be documented using our wound care-specific templates that speed up and improve documentation.
- Seamless workflow with your EHR: Documented encounters can be easily transferred to EHRs if needed. Encounters are securely saved on the cloud, so that you can create new encounters and access existing encounters anytime anywhere.
- For details on implementation of billable interprofessional internet consultations see "Interprofessional Internet Consultations with the WoundReference TeleVisit Tool" and "Adopting Telemedicine in Wound Care: Interprofessional Internet Consultations".
- Remotely check-in with your patients. As a clinician, patients might contact you with questions and it might be sometimes difficult for them to describe their wounds or other condition, and you wish you could see them. Instead of having the patient come in right away, you may want to schedule a virtual appointment and videoconference with your patient to see the wound, before deciding whether a trip to your office is needed. It works just like a phone call, but with video! See "What is new in 2019 for Telehealth and Telemedicine?"
What is the difference between TeleVisit Tool 1.0 and TeleVisit Tool 2.0?
TeleVisit Tool 1.0 is the initial version of the Tool that allows you to have your own virtual room with a fixed address.
TeleVisit Tool 2.0 is the second release of the Tool. It has several enhancements, such as scheduling, secure message and ability for patients to toggle their phone camera to the rear camera, which makes it much easier for patients to show you their wounds. The new tool also has waiting rooms, and allows you to generate a specific link to each encounter (enabling more flexible scheduling, such as back-to-back televisits).
We highly recommend opting for the TeleVisit Tool 2.0. as opposed to the TeleVisit Tool 1.0, due to enhanced functionalities of the newer version. However, if the patient has an iPhone with an older Safari version (Safari 11 or 12), or a Google Pixel phone, the TeleVisit Tool 1.0 may still be used, as the TeleVisit Tool 2.0 currently does not support older iOS Safari versions or Google Pixel phones. See compatibility guide here.
How about HIPAA? Is it secure?
Yes, the TeleVisit Tool is HIPAA compliant and secure. Our TeleVisit Tool is built on the WebRTC stack which provides end-to-end encryption across a peer-to-peer topology. The video-chat feature of the TeleVisit Tool is considered a “conduit” under this architecture and, as a conduit, does not require a signed HIPAA BAA (Business Associate's Agreement) between your organization and WoundReference. However, in order to use the Documentation feature, a BAA between your organization and WoundReference would be needed.
